Celebrating International Day of Charity - 5th September 2024

At The Happiness Box, we believe in spreading joy, and a significant part of that mission involves giving back to our community. This International Day of Charity, observed on the 5th of September, holds special meaning for us as we reflect on our ongoing support of charities close to our hearts.

Why 5th September? International Day of Charity was established by the United Nations to raise awareness and encourage giving. The date is significant as it marks the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a beacon of charity who dedicated her life to helping the most vulnerable. Her legacy of selflessness inspires us to continue our work with charities that support families and children.

Supporting Local Charities

Here at The Happiness Box, we support two incredible charities: We Are Beams and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

  • We Are Beams: This amazing charity supports disabled children and their families in Kent. We’ve sponsored events for them and recently participated in their heartwarming "Messy Dash." My son and I enjoyed a day of running through Dartford Park while being covered in gunge, paint, and glitter—all in the name of raising funds and awareness for a fantastic cause. Their dedication to helping families like ours cope with the challenges of raising children is why we continue to champion their cause. Learn more about We Are Beams here.

  • Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH): Known across the UK for their lifesaving work with seriously ill children, GOSH is another charity we proudly support. Through donations, we help GOSH continue their critical work, providing hope and care to children in need. You can support them too by visiting their donation page here.

We are also looking forward to collaborating with Little Buds Charity, part of Darent Valley Hospital, which helps care for babies and their families. Having welcomed our children, Oliver in 2019 and Lily in 2023, my wife Louise and I have a deep appreciation for the struggles many families face. We understand how precious these early years are, and our goal is to support as many families as we can.

Our Commitment to Charity At The Happiness Box, we contribute 10% of our proceeds from our honesty boxes—which we supply to local offices around Dartford and Sevenoaks—to both We Are Beams and GOSH. We’re proud to work with businesses such as Petit Forrestier, Clearway, Greenacres, TradeApps, Swanley Town Council, and local schools who are helping us give back to the community.

We encourage everyone to join us in celebrating International Day of Charity by giving back in their own way—whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness. Every little bit helps, and together, we can make a significant impact.

As we continue to grow, we remain committed to spreading joy and making a difference, one letterbox gift at a time.
